The Shark by Mary Burton
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Riley Tatum was a teenage runaway who has now turned her life around and is a State Trooper.
The Shark by Mary Burton was a hard book to put down. I am excited to see that is the first book in a series called The Forgotten Files. After waking up in a bus station, Riley goes to stay with Duke and his wife who run a sanctuary for runaways. She is able to turn her life around, finish school and attend college. While at the police academy, she has a fling with her instructor, Clay Bowman. Fast forward 5 years.
Riley comes upon a young woman murdered in the Virginia woods. The girl has special playing cards on her that match the ones Riley found in her pocket when she awoke at a bus station after losing about of week of her life with no memories. Clay is brought in to assist Riley and her K-9( Cooper with the case. Will their romance rekindle, or is Clay and Riley both just too damaged? Clay is no longer FBI, but works for a private security firm called Shield Security. The owner is ex FBI as well and was on the original case of the serial killer called “The Shark” due to the cards he leaves on victims. Riley is the only know victim to “get away”.
I need to stop there so as not to give too much away. This was my first Mary Burton book but will definitely not be my last. I loved this book. I suggest this book and series for fans of fictional serial killers, romance enthusiasts, K-9 story fans and anyone who loves a good mystery. It kept me guessing until the end. READ THIS BOOK.
