At the End of Every Day by Arianna Reiche
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
Thanks to Arianna Reiche and Atria Books (Simon and Schuster) for the advanced copy they have sent to me. I will do my best to provide an unbiased review.
To start, I absolutely was drawn in by the back cover synopsis of At the end of Every Day.The idea of being privy to the inner workings of a large scale amusement park is enticing. The idea that there is something sinister going on is darkly exciting. I will save you from all the info you can read off of the synopsis and dive in.
At the opening of the book, I feel a ton of info is dumped on the reader and I found myself going back to reread the first 4 chapters thinking I had missed something. Don’t worry if you feel the same way. Some of the questions are completely left unanswered and I believe that is the way Reiche intended it. I also had issue empathizing with Delphi. She seemed very immature for her age. I also did not buy into her relationship with Brendan.
The book was billed as a debut thriller and was definitely a good first. I would recommend it for those who love reading bizarre, dark novels. If you enjoy novels such as The Night Circus you will love this ambiguous debut.
