The Mister by E.L. James
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
E.L. James has done it again! That is, she has written a book to spice up everyone’s sex life (including my own).
Maxim Trevelyan has inherited his families noble title and holdings due to the tragic death of his brother. He must now step up and become the man his brother was and leave behind his carefree playboy ways. The biggest obstacle he faces though is his intriguing and beautiful cleaning lady Alessia Demachi.
Alessia has recently arrived in London under questionable circumstances fleeing her country and the life that just won’t seem to let her go. Will their growing fondness for eachother be enough? Or will the odds that are stacked against them win in the end?
James has done a fabulous job fleshing out her characters. I love that Alessia has synesthesia and is a piano prodigy. I also enjoy her innocence and the way she sees the world through a child’s eye. Living a sheltered life makes even the mundane new for her. There is a flip side to this as well, the characters are so far fetched that it is difficult for the readers to truly relate to them. If you are looking for characters to truly understand, this is not the book for you. If you are looking to lose yourself in a world of unrealistic romance…. sign on the dotted line.
The Mister by E.L. James is written in a third person omniscient point of view and is mostly focuses on Alessia and Maxim. I enjoy being on the outside looking in but also knowing what they are thinking. I find it much more fulfilling than the first person POV James uses in Fifty Shades of Gray.
This book has it all: Mystery, Erotica (though much lighter than 50 Shades)Suspense,Romance and Tragedy.I really enjoyed the book and just bought the follow up The Missus. I would suggest this book for anyone who loved James’s other books and anyone who likes suspense and mystery novels such as those by Mary Burton.
